5 Essentials Survey

Dear Parents,

Every year, the Illinois State Board of Education invites teachers, students in grades 4-12 and parents the opportunity to provide feedback about their child's school. This survey is called 5Essentials and is currently available for parents to take. The survey will close on February 14, 2020. We are hopeful for a significant percentage of our parents to complete the survey. The larger the participation, the more information we gain to improve our school. The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. We hope to gain your insight on five components found to be critical for school success:

1. Effective Leaders: The principal works with teachers to implement a clear and strategic vision for school success.
2. Collaborative Teachers: Teachers collaborate to promote professional growth.
3. Involved Families: The entire school staff builds strong relationships with families and communities to support learning.
4. Supportive Environment: The school is safe and orderly. Teachers have high expectations for students and support students to realize their goals. Classmates also support one another.
5. Ambitious Instruction: Classes are academically demanding and engage students by emphasizing the application of knowledge.

The 2018-2019 results from the 5Essentials survey taken by Lincoln teachers and 4th-6th grade students indicated the following high performing areas:
Parent Supportiveness (S)
School Safety (S)
Socialization of New Teachers (T)
Teacher-Parent Trust (T)
Human and Social Resources in the Community (S)
School Connectedness (S)
Student-Peer Relationships (S)

Areas that will be targeted as a result of the 2018-2019 5Essentials Survey include:
-Collaborative Practices (Teachers observing teachers; teachers reviewing assessment data together; working with another teacher to development materials)
-English Instruction (Students re-writing work after receiving teacher feedback; making connections between reading and real life situations; improving a piece of writing as a class or with partners)
-Instructional Leadership (Makes clear to staff expectations for meeting instructional goals; communicates a clear vision for school; encourages teachers to use what they learn in professional development; provides feedback and support to improve teaching)
-Teacher Influence (Planning use of funds; determining books and instructional materials to be used; establishing curriculum; determining the content of in-service programs; setting standards for student behavior)

We invite you to take this survey to provide us with meaningful feedback about your experiences with Lincoln Elementary School. We will use this information to help improve the educational services and experiences we provide your student and for those students yet to attend Lincoln Elementary School.
