About the Principal

Hello! My name is Wendy Vastine, and I am thrilled to be serving as the Principal at Lincoln School. After graduating with a degree in Elementary Education from Illinois State University, I began my teaching career at Lincoln School in 1995. I spent my first two years in fourth grade. Back in those days, Lincoln School only had two classes at each grade, so I was the teacher that was shifted around to accommodate the larger classes. After three years, I landed in third grade where I spent 13 wonderful years. I have also had the pleasure of teaching second grade, kindergarten and most recently first grade. I completed my Master’s Degree in Educational Administration in 2001 at Illinois State University. I am finally putting that degree to good use, and I feel incredibly honored to be doing so at the school I have always called home!

I have two amazing “kids” who are former Lincoln Lions. My daughter, Allison, is a nurse at the Mott Children’s Hospital at the University of Michigan in the peds cardiac unit. She is a 2023 graduate of the University of Iowa. My son, Thomas, is a graduate of Iowa State University and majored in Animal Science with a concentration in equine studies.  The Iowa/Iowa State rivalry between the two of them is always a good time. In my free time, I love taking family and senior pictures. My favorite way to spend my time is traveling. Europe has my heart!

Thank you for trusting me with your most precious young people. I love being a part of their years at Lincoln School. I’m proud to be a part of the Lincoln Lion family!

    About the Assistant Principal

Hello, my name is Stu Smith.  I am in my 27th year in education, and first year as Assistant Principal at Lincoln Elementary.  I have previously taught fifth grade here at Lincoln for the last 15 years, after working as a sixth grade teacher, for 2 years to start my time at Lincoln.  I taught 7th and 8th grade math at Pekin Broadmoor, and started my career in Canton, at Ingersoll Middle School in 6th grade.  Lincoln has become my professional home, and I cannot thank the staff here for their help in my growth, and support of my transition to this new role.

Outside of school, I love to do “guy stuff,” like golf, hunt, and work on projects.  My wife, Sheryl, and I love to share family experiences with our children, Lilli and Hank.  Lilli will finish college at Mississippi State this year, and Hank is in his senior year at Washington Community High School.  We enjoy spending time together with our dog, Rubi, and cat, Larry, as well.

Lincoln is a special place, and I am fortunate to have the opportunity to help the staff and students here.  There really is a family atmosphere at Lincoln.  Thank you to the staff, students, and parents for helping to create this fantastic school culture!
