LINCOLN SCHOOL
BACK TO SCHOOL INFORMATION SHEET
2026-2027
Welcome to Lincoln Elementary School! We are very excited about the upcoming school year and can’t wait to begin working with you and your children! ☺
PowerSchool will be open to K-6 parents on Friday, August 7th at 3:00 PM to see your child’s classroom teacher for the new school year.
“Unpack Your Backpack Night” for grades K-3rd grade will be held on Tuesday, August 11th from 4:00-5:00 PM. This is an opportunity for students and families in the primary grades to come to school, see their classrooms, meet their teachers, and drop off their school supplies.
The first day of school is Wednesday, August 12th:
All students will attend from 8:20-11:55 AM. When students arrive at school, they will wait outside with their parents/guardians until 8:00 AM. At 8:00 AM, all students (and parents/guardians who wish to enter the building) will be allowed to enter the building and go directly to their classrooms. At 8:20 AM, all parents/visitors will be expected to exit the school so our school day can begin. The exception is those kindergarten/New Families participating in the Boo Hoo/Yahoo Breakfast. (Please see the Lincoln School Parent-Teacher Handbook which outlines our daily before school procedures, bells, etc.) Breakfast will be served in the cafeteria starting at 7:45 AM for those students who wish to eat.
Kindergarten parents and those who are new to Lincoln are invited to join us for the “Boohoo/Yahoo” Breakfast at 8:20 AM in the cafeteria. This is a great opportunity to connect with other kindergarten parents and ask any questions of Mrs. Vastine and Mr. Smith. The gathering will conclude at 9:00 AM.
Beginning on Thursday, August 13th:
Students in grades K-6 will attend from 8:20 AM-2:40 PM. All students will report to the gym when they arrive at school.
On Monday through Thursday, students will be dismissed to their classrooms at 8:10 AM. Morning announcements will be made over the intercom at 8:20 AM. Students who enter school after 8:20 AM are considered tardy and must enter the school through the office to receive a pass to class.
On Fridays, we will hold a brief “Morning Assembly” in the gym, beginning at 8:10 AM. All students will report to the gym when they arrive at school. The morning assembly will conclude at approximately 8:20 AM.
Breakfast will begin on Wednesday, August 12th. Breakfast and lunch will both be served starting on Thursday, August 13th. Menus will be sent home monthly and will be posted on our website and school Facebook page. You can deposit money into your child’s MEAL MAGIC account by going to the district website at https://www.morton709.org. Money can also be sent to school in an envelope with your child’s name, grade, and teacher written on the outside. These envelopes will be collected by the teachers every morning. Checks should be made payable to the “Morton School District”.

There is no school on Monday, September 7th as we observe Labor Day.
Kindergarten students, 6th grade students, and ALL out-of-state transfer students are required to have Illinois physical exams and a complete record of immunizations. We are required by law to exclude students who are not in compliance with State requirements by Wednesday, October 15th. All student medical records will be checked and parents will be notified of any noncompliance prior to October 15th. If they are not in compliance on October 15th, students will not be able to remain at school.
Kindergarten students and other students enrolling for the first time must have an eye exam by October 15th.
Kindergarten students, 2nd grade students, and 6th grade students are required to have a dental exam by May 15th.
The Illinois Education Reform Act requires parent notification by the school of a child’s absence if the parent has not notified the school. Parents are required to send a note or call the school office to inform us of student illness or vacation. Our attendance line (284-4000) is available 24 hours a day. If we have not heard from you regarding a student absence by 9:00 am, we are required to contact you.
When dropping-off students in the morning, please use the circle driveway in front of the building. Students must exit from the passenger side of your vehicle. Please remain in your vehicle to keep the line moving. If you need to walk your child inside, please park in the school parking lot and cross at the crosswalk in front of the school. Please do not drop off children in the north parking lot, which is designated for bus drop off and pick up only.
When picking-up students in the afternoon, the parking lot/driveway is closed to car traffic, unless using the handicapped accessible parking spots. Please park along Nebraska Avenue or other nearby streets and walk up to meet your child or plan on a meeting place for pick up. Again the north parking lot is limited to buses and staff parking. Please be mindful of no parking zones near the bus entrance and exit on Jefferson Street.
Please feel free to call us at 309-266-6989 if we can provide you with any additional information. We are looking forward to a fantastic school year! Welcome back!!
Sincerely,
Wendy Vastine
Principal
