My Class3rd Grade

Welcome to Third Grade

Third Grade Spelling List

This is a wonderful year in which the students gain independence, responsibility, and maturity. Your child will be expected to work more independently, turn in their work on time, and write daily assignments in their notebook.

Your child will learn several new topics in each subject area this year:

· Your child will have an average of 20 spelling words each week from our reading textbook, along with a nightly spelling assignment.

· In reading, students will be expected to read chapter books and acquire a determined amount of points each month for Accelerated Reading. Along with the reading series, students will participate in guided reading activities and novels.

· English brings multiple opportunities for writing. Lincoln School uses the Four Square Method as it is an effective way to visually teach the writing process. Along with this, students will focus on grammar and phonics with the use of our reading text.

· In math, students will review addition and subtraction facts. By the end of third grade, students must master multiplication and division facts. Problem solving will be done on a daily basis, with an emphasis on extend response.

· The focus for social studies will be communities with an emphasis on geography and map skills. In science the students will learn about the following units: Living Things, Rocks and Minerals, Water Cycle, Solar System, and Life Cycles.
